Introduction
Cancers of the trachea, bronchus, and lung are a major cause of death in both men and women. The main cause of these cancers is smoking. Cigarette smoke contains over 4,000 chemicals, including carcinogens (cancer-causing agents). These chemicals damage the cells lining the airways, which can lead to cancer.
What are the main causes of trachea bronchus lung cancers?
There are many different types of cancer, but lung cancer is one of the most common. In the United States, lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in men and women.
Lung cancer can develop in any part of the lungs, but it is more common in the upper lobes. There are two main types of lung cancer – small cell lung cancer and non-small cell lung cancer. The main causes of trachea bronchus cancers are smoking cigarettes and exposure to secondhand smoke. Other causes include air pollution, radiation therapy for other cancers, and asbestos exposure.
Tobacco smoking:
Smoking tobacco is the leading cause of preventable death in the United States. It is also the main cause of trachea, bronchus, and lung cancers. Smoking can also lead to heart disease, stroke, and other health problems.
Air pollution
Air pollution is the introduction of chemicals, particulates, or biological materials into Earth’s atmosphere that adversely affect human health, the environment, or the climate.
It has been linked to many health problems such as heart disease, respiratory problems, and cancer. Air pollution may be caused by natural processes or by human activities.
The main cause of trachea bronchus lung cancers are air pollutants including smoke from cigarettes, exhaust fumes from cars and other vehicles, and industrial pollutants.
Radon gas
Radon gas is a colorless, odorless and tasteless radioactive gas. It is the main cause of trachea bronchus lung cancers. Radon is a natural occurring gas that forms from the natural decay of uranium in soil, rock and water. It can get into your home through cracks in the foundation, well water or pipes. The only way to know if you have high levels of radon in your home is to test for it.
Asbestos:
Asbestos is a mineral fiber that has been used in a variety of construction and manufacturing materials. For many years, it was also used in products that released asbestos fibers into the air, such as insulation, brake pads, and floor tiles. When asbestos fibers are inhaled, they can lodge in the lungs and cause serious health problems.
Asbestos is the number one cause of trachea, bronchus, and lung cancers. It can also cause mesothelioma, a type of cancer that affects the lining of the chest and abdomen. Asbestos exposure occurs when people breathe in asbestos fibers. Workers who are exposed to asbestos on the job are at risk for developing these diseases, but people who live near asbestos mines or factories may also be at risk.
Genetic factors:
Despite much progress in the understanding and treatment of lung cancer, it remains the leading cause of cancer death in the United States.1 Lung cancers are classified into two main types, non-small cell and small cell. The majority of lung cancers (approximately 85%) are non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLC),2 which are divided into several subtypes. The most common subtype of NSCLC is adenocarcinoma,3 followed by squamous cell carcinoma.4 The cause of NSCLC is not fully understood, but it is thought that a combination of environmental and genetic factors play a role.5
The most common cause of trachea, bronchus, and lung cancers is smoking.6 However, only about 15% of smokers will develop lung cancer.
